The Leibniz Supercomputing Centre (Leibniz-Rechenzentrum, LRZ) of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities provides high level IT services to the Bavarian universities and research institutions. For over 20 years LRZ has been a leading player in the area of high performance computing and operates one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe: SuperMUC. Through national and European projects we provide scientists throughout the world with an up-to-date Grid and Cloud computing infrastructure for data, network, and computing services.

In the area of Grid/Cloud Computing we are looking for

a scientific staff member
(university post graduate degree; master's degree or equivalent).

LRZ provides vital Grid and Cloud computing services to its clients. Your primary job will be to operate, maintain, and extend LRZ's Grid computing installations (http://www.lrz.de/services/compute/grid_en/<https://www.lrz.de/services/compute/grid_en/>) on its world-class supercomputers: SuperMUC Phase 1 and 2, the Linux Cluster, the remote visualization facility, storage systems, and the LRZ Compute Cloud. These services include leading edge Globus Sharing, Globus general services (GridFTP, GRAM, gsissh, MyProxy, etc.), Unicore, and the connection of these services to LRZ-internal identity management systems, as well as to external virtual organization management systems (VOMS). You will also help users to solve Grid-related problems and overcome entry barriers to Grid computing, including usage of external Grid infrastructures like EGI, PRACE, XSEDE, OSG, etc.

A second aspect of your job will be to help in the operation, maintenance, and improvement of LRZ's Compute Cloud service (http://www.lrz.de/services/compute/cloud_en/<https://www.lrz.de/services/compute/cloud_en/>). This can include also coupling of LRZ's Cloud with external Cloud resources to enable Cloud bursting. LRZ offers this state of the art service to its scientific customers and you will, together with experienced LRZ personnel, improve our Cloud service offerings, work in user administration, advise Cloud users, and help them to solve their problems using Cloud computing.

You should have the following qualifications:

  * Experience with Grid and Cloud computing, especially Globus, Unicore, OpenNebula.
  * Experience with UNIX/Linux based systems.
  *   Programming experience in shell and scripting languages (Perl, Python) and a higher level programming language (C or Java);
