Dear all
The LMU Open Science Initiative in Medicine (OSIM) is pleased to announce an online lecture by Prof Ulrich Mansmann on Clinical Data Sharing, taking place next Friday, Dec 12 at 14:00 on Zoom:
https://lmu-munich.zoom-x.de/j/65957504867?pwd=8yysED5YciGYq4gy5QGdy64NvAIfER.1 (Meeting ID: 659 5750 4867; Code: 555795) –
calendar invitation in attachment.
Prof emeritus Ulrich Mansmann was the director of the Institute for Medical Information Processing, Biometry, and Epidemiology (IBE) at the LMU from 2005 to 2025; we are grateful for his continued contributions to open
science!
Title: Training the Next Generation of Researchers in Clinical Data Sharing
Abstract: Clinical data sharing offers many opportunities for innovative research, knowledge consolidation, and scientific exploration. While epidemiologists often view shared data as
a crucial foundation for their work, clinical researchers sometimes regard the fact that the data was not collected by themselves or their affiliated group as a limitation. First, working with shared data presents a dual challenge for both data providers and
data users. Second, it raises an epistemological pseudo-problem: can a hypothesis truly be investigated without collecting the 'right' data oneself? This presentation will address this dilemma and explore what forms of knowledge researchers can mobilize as
users of shared data to contribute meaningfully to medical science.
Best wishes,
Malika Ihle, on behalf of the OSIM
