Dear HPC users,

After the great success of the 21st VI-HPS Tuning Workshop at LRZ in 2016, we are very happy to host another VI-HPS Tuning Workshop this year again.

The workshop will take place on Monday, April 23 - Friday Apr 27, 2018 at the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities at Garching b. München, Germany.

Further information can be found under the PRACE page https://events.prace-ri.eu/event/648/overview and the VI-HPS webpage under http://www.vi-hps.org/training/tws/TW-LRZ-2018.html .

This workshop organised by VI-HPS, LRZ and IT4Innovations for the PRACE Advanced Training Centre (PATC) at LRZ will:

· give an overview of the VI-HPS programming tools suite,

· explain the functionality of individual tools, and how to use them effectively,

· offer hands-on experience and expert assistance using the tools.

To foster the Czech-German collaboration in high performance computing, a contingent of places has been reserved for participants from the Czech Republic.

Programme Overview

Currently around 10 different lecturers from various institutions have agreed to teach during the workshop. Presentations and hands-on sessions are planned on the following topics:

· Setting up, welcome and introduction

· Score-P<http://www.vi-hps.org/Tools/Score-P.html> instrumentation and measurement

· Scalasca<http://www.vi-hps.org/Tools/Scalasca.html> automated trace analysis

· Vampir<http://www.vi-hps.org/Tools/Vampir.html> interactive trace analysis

· Periscope/PTF<http://www.vi-hps.org/Tools/Periscope.html> automated performance analysis and optimisation

· Extra-P<http://www.vi-hps.org/Tools/Extra-P.html> automated performance modeling

· Paraver<http://www.vi-hps.org/Tools/Paraver.html>/Extrae<http://www.vi-hps.org/Tools/Extrae.html>/Dimemas<http://www.vi-hps.org/Tools/Dimemas.html> trace analysis and performance prediction

· [k]cachegrind<http://www.vi-hps.org/Tools/callgrind.html> cache utilisation analysis

· MAQAO<http://www.vi-hps.org/Tools/MAQAO.html> performance analysis & optimisation

· MUST<http://www.vi-hps.org/Tools/MUST.html> runtime error detection for MPI

· ARCHER<http://www.vi-hps.org/Tools/ARCHER.html> runtime error detection for OpenMP

· MAP+PR<http://www.vi-hps.org/Tools/Allinea-MAP.html> profiling and performance reports

A brief overview of the capabilities of these and associated tools is provided in the VI-HPS Tools Guide<http://www.vi-hps.org/upload/material/general/ToolsGuide.pdf>.
