Fee: free of charge
Lecturer: Dr.-Ing. habil. Thomas Frank (LRZ)
Abstract: The focus of this short course is to provide to beginners in High Performance Computing (HPC) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) a crash course like introduction to the following essential knowledge: Introduction to the LRZ Linux Cluster Systems and computing environment, introduction to a typical user environment on LRZ Linux Cluster systems, Linux terminal access and file transfer tools, usage of the module system, the batch queuing or scheduling system SLURM, introduction to a typical CFD-oriented workflow on the example of ANSYS CFD and StarCCM+, aspects of licensing of commercial CFD software at LRZ.
OpenMP Programming Workshop
Date: Wednesday, 17 Feb 2021 13:00 - Friday, 19 Feb 2021 16:00 CET
Fee: free of charge
Registration Deadline: 3 Feb 2021
Registration: https://events.prace-ri.eu/event/1084/
Lecturers: Dr. Michael Klemm (CEO of the OpenMP ARB), Dr. Christian Terboven (RWTH Aachen University)
Abstract: This PRACE workshop will cover a wide range of topics, reaching from the basics of OpenMP programming using the "OpenMP Common Core" to really advanced topics like tasking, SIMD / vectorisation, NUMA aware programming, memory access, task affinity, memory management, tool support for performance and correctness, offloading to accelerators, features of OpenMP 5.1. During each day lectures will be mixed with hands-on sessions. Both lecturers are members of the OpenMP Language Committee.
Programming with Fortran
Date: Monday, 22 Feb 2021 - Wednesday, 24 Feb 2021, 10:00 - 18:00 CET
Fee: 30 EUR - 600 EUR
Registration Deadline: 8 Feb 2021
Registration: https://app1.edoobox.com/en/LRZ/Online%20Courses/Online-Kurs.ed.544978/
Lecturers: Dr. Reinhold Bader, Nisarg Patel (LRZ)
Abstract: This three day online course is targeted at scientists with little or no knowledge of the Fortran programming language, but need it for participation in projects using a Fortran code base, for development of their own codes, and for getting acquainted with additional tools like debugger and syntax checker as well as handling of compilers and libraries. The lecturer Dr. Reinhold Bader participates in the standardisation activities of the Fortran programming language in the international workgroup WG5.
Introduction to ANSYS Fluid Dynamics on LRZ HPC Systems
Date: 10 x Monday, 8 Mar 2021 - 17 May 2021, 10:00 - 12:00 & 14:00 - 16:00 CE(S)T
Fee: 50 EUR - 120 EUR
Registration Deadline: 22 Feb 2021
Registration: https://app1.edoobox.com/en/LRZ/Online%20Courses/Online-Kurs.ed.545091/
Lecturers: Dr.-Ing. habil. Thomas Frank (LRZ), Nisarg Patel (LRZ)
Abstract: The focus of this course with its 20 lectures and about 10 practical exercises is targeted on students, PhD's and researchers with good knowledge in the fundamentals of fluid mechanics and potentially with some first experience in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). The course will focus on the introduction to the ANSYS Fluid Dynamics software packages, i.e. ANSYS CFX and ANSYS Fluent. Further, participants will be familiarised with the main steps of the typical CFD workflow. Correctness of boundary conditions and CFD setup specifications, solver convergence control, solver monitoring, customization capabilities of the solvers and the postprocessing as well as recommended CFD best practices are covered. The course further focusses on the usage of the ANSYS CFD software in a typical Linux cluster environment for massively parallel computations. Finally some aspects of workflow automation using Python as scripting language are targeted as well.
Accelerated Computing with OpenACC and Deep Learning
Date: Tuesday, 27 Apr 2021 - Thursday, 29 Apr 2021, 10:00 - 16:00 CEST
Fee: free of charge
Registration: https://vsc.ac.at/training/2021/DL/ (Registration will start in March)
Lecturers: Dr. habil. Juan Durillo Barrionuevo (LRZ), Dr. Volker Weinberg (LRZ), Georg Zitzlsberger (IT4Innovations)
Abstract: The workshop combines a lecture about Accelerated Computing with OpenACC with lectures about Fundamentals of Deep Learning for single and for Multi-GPUs. Learn how to accelerate your applications with OpenACC, how to train and deploy a neural network to solve real-world problems, and how to effectively parallelise training of deep neural networks on Multi-GPUs. The course is organised by VSC - Vienna Scientific Cluster in cooperation with LRZ, IT4Innovations (Czechia), and NVIDIA.
