Das Symposium Doing Good – Scientific Practice under Reviewwird am 14. 
und 15. November 2019 an der Research Academy Leipzig und dem 
Max-Planck-Institut für Kognitions- und Neurowissenschaften Leipzig 
stattfinden. Das Symposium verfolgt einen Bottom-up-Ansatz – von und 
für Nachwuchswissenschaftler –, um zentrale Aspekte von Guter 
Wissenschaftlicher Praxis und Open Science zu diskutieren. Gegenwärtige 
Maßstäbe von wissenschaftlicher Praxis sollen unter die Lupe genommen 
werden und neue Perspektiven und Ansätze in Bezug auf das 
wissenschaftliche Publikationssystem, statistische Analysen sowie 
methodische und ethische Aspekte entwickelt werden.

Vorträge von den Keynote-Sprechern Prof. Ulrich Dirnagl (Charité und 
QUEST Center Berlin) und Dr. Candice Morey (University of Cardiff) 
bilden den konzeptuellen Rahmen des Symposiums. In Workshops und 
Hands-on-Sessions können sich die Teilnehmer mit einer Breite an Themen 
auseinandersetzen, u.a. zur Replikationskrise in den 
Lebenswissenschaften, statistischer Verzerrung und p-Hacking sowie Open 
Data und Prä-Registrierung. Weiterhin bieten die Sessions die 
Möglichkeit zur kritischen Reflexion von ethischen Fragestellungen und 
der Bedeutung wissenschaftlicher Integrität. Die Teilnehmer haben somit 
die Möglichkeit, neueste Entwicklungen in den Bereichen Gute 
Wissenschaftliche Praxis und Open Science kennenzulernen und die 
erworbenen Kenntnisse in ihre eigene wissenschaftliche Arbeit zu 
integrieren.

Das Symposium endet mit einer Podiumsdiskussion, bei der das Thema von 
verschiedenen Interessenvertretern der wissenschaftlichen Community, 
z.B. Verlage, Geldgeber und Editoren, debattiert wird. Die 
Podiumsdiskussion ist öffentlich.

##Are we doing good? Let's review scientific practice!

The symposium Doing Good – Scientific Practice under Reviewwill take 
place at the Research Academy Leipzig and the Max Planck Institute for 
Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences on November 14 and 15, 2019. 
Organised by and for doctoral students and early career researchers, it 
takes a bottom-up approach to central aspects of Good Scientific 
Practice and Open Science in empirical research. It aims to examine 
current scientific practices and to offer a thorough view on novel 
perspectives regarding the publication system, statistical analyses as 
well as methodological and ethical aspects in scientific research.

Keynote lectures, held by Prof. Ulrich Dirnagl (Charité and QUEST 
Center Berlin) and Dr. Candice Morey (University of Cardiff), will 
provide the conceptual framework.

Workshops and hands-on sessions will cover topics like reproducibility 
and the replication crisis, statistical bias and p-hacking, and open 
data and preregistration and will encourage critical discourse, e.g. in 
sessions on ethical considerations and research integrity. Participants 
will have the opportunity to learn about recent developments and 
challenges in Good Scientific Practice and to transfer the knowledge to 
their own research projects.

The symposium will finish with a panel discussion during which current 
and future developments of Good Scientific Practice will be debated by 
experts who act as stakeholders of the academic system. The panel 
discussion will be open to the public.
