Dear (bio)medical researchers and students,

We are happy to announce two workshops that follow the lecture "Introduction to Research Data Management for Medical and Biomedical Sciences," offered jointly by ZB MED [1] and LMU University Library [2] in December 2023. The workshops deepen the topics of the introductory lecture and are targeted at doctoral students working in the medical and biomedical sciences. Please note that the maximum number of participants for each workshop is limited to 30 persons.

Workshop on Data Sharing and Publication on 07.05.2024, 14:00-16:00 (online)
The workshop gives a more detailed introduction to data sharing and publication and explores its practical aspects, focusing on the needs in medical and biomedical research. Participants will learn strategies for implementing access control mechanisms that enable data sharing while protecting sensitive information. Further topics are the benefits of using persistent identifiers (PIDs) and their connection to the FAIR data principles. Finally, the workshop provides participants with best practices for preparing and publishing data and gives an overview of data repositories in the medical and biomedical field. Through interactive sessions and discussions, participants will deepen their knowledge to effectively manage, share, and publish their research data, fostering transparency and reproducibility in their scientific work.
Topics: access control, persistent identifiers, data publishing, repositories

Workshop on Data Management Plans (DMPs) on 15.05.2024, 14:00-16:00 (online)
The workshop focuses on Data Management Plans (DMPs), a crucial element of successful research data management (RDM) and discipline-specific characteristics in medical and biomedical fields. The workshop will start with a basic introduction to data management plans, including their structure, advantages and possibilities. Through interactive exercises and expert guidance, the workshop will provide participants with the skills necessary to develop DMPs that ensure responsible and efficient data management throughout the research lifecycle. Also, an introduction and demonstration of the use of DMP tools will be provided, focussing on the DMP tool RDMO, which is well established in the German scientific community. This workshop empowers researchers in medical and biomedical fields to meet funder requirements, enhance research transparency, and promote data sharing and reproducibility.
Topics: data management plans, DMP tools, RDMO
