Call for Applications: DataFest Germany 2024

Come and be part of the thrilling 7th edition of DataFest Germany, set to take place from April 5th to 7th, 2024, at the University of Mannheim. This event is a joint effort, brought to you by the Chair for Statistics and Data Science in Social Sciences, the Mannheim Center for Data Science, and the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich.

What is DataFest Germany?
DataFest Germany is a premier data-based competition, commonly referred to as a "hackathon," held annually on a rotational basis between Mannheim and Munich. Coordinated in partnership with industry leaders and research institutions, this event provides Bachelor and Masters-level students from all disciplines with a unique opportunity to showcase their data analytics skills.

How Does It Work?
Teams of 3–5 students will have 48 hours to dive into a comprehensive dataset, revealed only at the beginning of the event. Through visualization, analysis, modeling, and more, participants will strive to uncover valuable insights. After the competition, teams will present their findings to a distinguished panel of judges comprising data experts from various fields. Prizes will be awarded across categories such as "Best Insight," "Best Visualization," and "Best Use of Outside Data."

Support and Networking Opportunities:
Throughout the competition, students will receive guidance from the University of Mannheim's experts in statistics and computer science, as well as professional consultants from external partner institutions. Moreover, participants will have the chance to connect with potential employers at the event's internal CareerFair, enhancing their career prospects in the dynamic field of data science.

DataFest Germany is part of a global tradition, inspired by the work of the American Statistical Association. Since its inception at the University of California in 2011, DataFest has spread worldwide, with universities across the globe embracing its format.
