On June 29th, 2015, the expansion of High Performance Computer SuperMUC was officially put into operation during an opening ceremony at the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre (Leibniz-Rechenzentrum, LRZ) of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Garching near Munich. "SuperMUC Phase 2" provides an additional peak performance of 3.6 Petaflops to the previously available 3.2 Petaflops, pushing the maximum theoretical computing power of SuperMUC to now 6.8 Petaflops (6.8 quadrillion floating point operations per second).
