a bit of time has gone by since the meeting in Munich. During this time I have written down the minutes of the CEI-Meeting on Saturday 3rd of March that I attach to this mail.

At the meeting we decided to continue the further development on the data model for encoding charters via this list. Everybody is invited and encouraged to send his ideas and proposals to the list or to me personally. I will keep track of the incoming mails and put your comments into the database of elements at http://www.cei.lmu.de/facetedview.php.

At the meeting we built some “aspects”/”facets” of the description of medieval and early modern instruments to keep the overview. After collecting concepts of the description of the chronology of the charters in Munich I would now suggest that we continue the work with an “online-brainstorming” for elements that are necessary to describe the diplomatic discourse (cfr. http://www.cei.lmu.de/facetedview.php?facetID=61). I propose to switch to another facet with beginning June, although I definitively don’t want to exclude any proposal fitting into other facets before that date. Please feel free to make your suggestions in French, Italian or German too.

Lieber Georg, vielen Dank für das Protokoll, dass mir doch ein wenig über den Verlauf der Sitzung in München verraten hat. Dass dort die verschiedenen Modelle aufeinanderknallen würden, war ja vorauszusehen, und eine abschnittsweise Vorgehensweise, wie die jetzt wohl vorgeschlagene ist sicherlich eine sinnvolle Alternative um einmal die Frage zu klären welche Elemente thematisch zusammenhängen. Aber nun fehlen mir die Über- und untergeordneten Elemente, um die Abhändigkeiten zu erkennen. Und was mir nicht klar geworden ist: wie hängen denn die einzelnen "facetts" zusammen? Die Frage, welche Elemente ich brauche, was sie bedeuten und natürlich auch wie ich sie benenne, hängen doch z.T. auch mit der Frage zusammen, wie die einzelnen Elemente zusammenhängen. Was ist das Wurzelelement? Ich habe momentan leider wenig Zeit mich damit intensiver auseinander zu setzen, aber um dies tun zu können, fänd ich es schön, wieder auf die alte alphabethische Liste zurückgreifen zu können, was aber leider z.Zt. nicht geht. Außerdem sind einige meiner Kommentare in der Tag-Libary momentan nicht mehr verständlich (siehe z.B. <tenor> and <issued> unter: "facets of legal". Zudem: wo ist in der Liste, die unter http://www.cei.lmu.de/facetedview.php zu finden ist, der archivsche Teil geblieben, der im Protokoll noch in der Liste der "facets" steht und offenbar durch "bibliography" ausgetauscht wurde. Ich mnöchte noch einmal betonen: Meines Erachtens müssen wir immer die hierarchische Struktur von XML beachten, sonst werden wir uns im Kreise drehen und viel Arbeit umsonst oder doppelt machen. Und: M.E. ist immer noch nicht klar, was das Ziel dieser Initiative ist: CA, CM, CP oder CD?, (um es mal mit dem Koll. Sahle zu sagen): M.E. kommen wir zu keinem vernünftigen Ende, wenn wir uns nicht erst einmal darüber einigen, wo wir jetzt sind und was wir wollen. Schade, das Wetter ist so toll, da will man an sich keinen Pessimismus verbreiten, aber nach der Lektüre dieses Protokolls und in Anbetracht der Discussion der letzen Monate sehe ich uns eher als eine Horde in einem Laufrad, denn als vorwärts strebend.
