Dear colleagues, On Monday, October 20th at 5 pm the Bavarian Academy of Sciences (BAdW) will host Dr. Richard M. Stallman giving a talk about "Free Software and Freedom in the Digital Society" with ensuing discussion. Richard M. Stallman is founder of the Free Software Foundation ( https://fsf.org ) and the GNU project ( https://gnu.org ). He set a mark in the field of digital humanities (DH), in that: 1. he enabled development of entire free software-based suites for digital humanities. 2. die Creative Commons licenses came into existence as a derivation of the Free Software licenses developed by him (e.g. GPL). If we consider that digital humanities reflect the societal way we that consider and use digital technology, then 3. by being a prominent activist for Free Software, he also contributed to the DH. Moreover, He's a great orator and discussion partner. All interested colleagues are cordially invited to attend his talk.
