DEISA European-US Summer School on HPC Challenges

DEISA, Distributed European Infrastructure for Supercomputing Applications, has just announced the second EU/US summer school in computational sciences, to take place from Aug 7-12 at Lake Tahoe, California. See http://www.deisa.eu/Summer-School Please inform suitable students so that they can apply for participation. Participation/stay is free of charge, travel funds will be provided by DEISA/PRACE. The NSF grant is aiming for 60 students, 35 from the US and 25 from Europe (just inverse to the summer school 2010 in Catania). Applications are all through the US web page. The EU selection will be done by a committee already set up by DEISA and PRACE from six countries. Changes to this message: Corrected shutdown time As indicated in ALI 3942, an interruption of electrical power is scheduled for the weekend Feb 26-27. On the Linux cluster, additional maintenance measures will also be required. Therefore, the cluster will be unavailable for user operation between Friday, February 25, 16:00 and Tuesday, March 1, 18:00 All running batch jobs will be removed from the systems; we will leave the queues open until Friday 15:00, but recommend to set a user hold on any queued jobs which do not start execution in time to complete by Friday afternoon. HLRB-II: Suspension of user operation Feb 25 - Feb 27

As indicated in ALI 3942, an interruption of electrical power is scheduled for the weekend Feb 26-27. Therefore, HLRB-II will be unavailable for user operation between Friday, February 25, 16:00 and February 27, afternoon All running batch jobs will be removed from the system; the queue for long-running (N64L) jobs will be closed on Tuesday, Feb. 22. For all other jobs, rerun will be performed at system start unless explicitly suppressed in the PBS request. Note that while we expect to return to operation during Sunday afternoon, this may be delayed if the infrastructure on which the system relies is not yet ready by then. 1. Zentrale Netzdienste Zwischen 7:00 Uhr und 7:30 Uhr werden die sogenannten Load Balancer im Rechenzentrumsnetz durch neue, leistungsfaehigere Geraete ersetzt. Fuer viele Dienste wie Radius (VPN, Eduroam), Mailversand, WWW-Server, Zugang zu Online-Medien und anderen wird es dabei zu einem Ausfall kommen. 2. TUM Maschinenwesen Gebaeudeteil 4 (WLAN) Wegen der Ersetzung eines Switches wird das WLAN im Gebaeudeteil 4 zwischen 8:00 Uhr und 9:00 Uhr zeitweise nicht zur Verfuegung stehen.
