Changes to this message: GPFS unavailable again 2nd Update Unfortunately, during Saturday morning GPFS has become unavailable again on most nodes of the system. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear users of SuperMUC, the reason for the problems with the GPFS filesystem on SuperMUC seem to be defective Infiniband hardware component(s), which broke as a consequence of the power failure on Sunday, September 23rd. Unfortunately, the particular hardware components could not yet be identified and we cannot reliably estimate how long the search will take. IBM is still working on the problem. We apologize for the inconveniences caused by this failure. We will inform you through an update to this announcement as soon as the problem is fixed. Aenderungen an der Mitteilung: Update Der Sophos-Dienst des LRZ war in der Nacht zum 20.09. von 22:30 bis 2: 30 Uhr gestoert. Sophos hatte ein Virenpattern ausgeliefert, welches Sophos selbst als Virus erkannt hat und in die Qurantaene geschoben hat. Dadurch hat sich Sophos selbst blockiert und keine weiteren Updates zugelassen. Betroffen sind alle Rechner die in dem Zeitraum gelaufen sind. Alle Maschinen die erst nach dem Zeitraum sich Updates vom zentralen Verteilpunkt des LRZ geholt haben, sind davon nicht betroffen. Linux Cluster: Serial Segment Maintenance

Dear users of the Linux Cluster Systems at LRZ, The overdue operating system update of the serial segment has been scheduled for October 8, 8:00 am - October 11, 6:00 pm. At the beginning of this maintenance, all SGE jobs that are still running will be deleted. All queued jobs that target the systems to be upgraded will be lost. During the above interval, the cluster will not be available for user operation. After return to user operation, you will need to change your SGE job scripts over to using SLURM; documentation on how to use SLURM for serial jobs will be published on the LRZ web server and linked from here as it becomes available. Generally, it may also be necessary for you to re-compile your applications for the new environment. Also note that access to the cluster login node lx64ia2 will already become unavailable on October 2; please use the remaining login node lx64ia3 in the meantime. The secure shell keys for all login nodes may become invalid and will be updated on the LRZ web server if that is the case. Changes to this message: Update Update: Due to the unforeseen power interrupt on Sunday, Sep. 23, we have decided not to return the system to user operation before the maintenance any more, since newly started jobs would not complete anyway. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear users of the MEGWare MPP cluster at LRZ, due to an extended hardware and software maintenance, the MPP cluster will not be available for user operation between September 24, 8:00 and October 4, 17:00. SLURM batch processing will be suspended on September 24 in order to drain the system before the interruption starts. Part of the maintenance time indicated above is also dedicated for energy measurements on the system. The other cluster segments are not impacted by this maintenance.
