The Leibniz-Rechenzentrum (LRZ) is the computer centre for Munich's universities and for the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities. It takes care of the communication network in Munich, connecting more than 200 buildings and campus areas in the Munich region, it offers a variety of data services, and it provides high-end computing facilities for the scientific community in Germany and beyond. LRZ operates one of the most powerful and energy efficient high performance computing systems in Europe. The new high-end system (SuperMUC) has a peak performance of 3 PetaFlop/s and contains more than 155,000 cores. Additional Linux-clusters and visualization systems supplement it. In February 2013 the LRZ joined a European Project (Marie-Curie ITN) - Mr.SymBioMath (www.mrsymbiomath.eu) which is focused on the problem domain of Comparative Genomics. The contribution of the LRZ in the context of this project is concentrated in the area of Information Visualisation. In order to support this project and to develop visualisation solutions we are looking for an: Experienced Researcher The LRZ has a vacancy for an Experienced Researcher funded with full employee benefits for a period of 24 months. The researcher may not have resided or carried out his/her main activity in the Federal Republic of Germany for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to his/her appointment. Call for proposals for PRACE Preparatory Access

PRACE (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe) is a Research Infrastructure that allows researchers from across Europe to apply for time on high-performance computers from a series of hosting nations via a central peer review process. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PRACE Preparatory Access Call for Tier-0 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Preparatory access is intended for testing and developing codes in order to prepare applications for PRACE Tier-0 project access. In particular, we would like to draw your attention to the Preparatory Access Type C which includes code development with support from PRACE experts. Further information are given on the PRACE web page http://www.prace-ri.eu/Call-Announcements The Preparatory Access Call is a rolling call, researchers can apply for access all year. There are no closing dates, proposals will be reviewed every third month. The next cutoff date is March 3rd, 2014, 11:00 AM CET. LRZ invites all interested scientists, whose projects fit the criteria of the PRACE call to submit their projects. Job Opening: Scientific Computing Expert

Leibniz Supercomputing Centre (Leibniz-Rechenzentrum, LRZ) is part of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities. LRZ provides general IT services to the Munich universities, operates the Munich Scientific Network, and is a center for arching and backup. As a national center for supercomputing, LRZ operates one of the fastest high performance computing systems in the world with more than 150,000 cores and a peak performance of more than 3 PetaFlop/s. The system will soon be upgraded to more than 6 PetaFlop/s. A small part of the system is also equipped with Intel Xeon Phi accelerators to serve as a test bed for future still more powerful systems. For the support of the users and applications LRZ is looking for a Scientific Computing Expert The position is available immediately. Applications will be accepted until Feb 28th, 2014. Required experience and skills - PhD or university graduate degree, diploma, master's degree or equivalent in a scientifically oriented subject (computational science, mathematics, (geo-/astro-)physics, chemistry etc.) - Demonstrated ability to lead scientific and technical efforts in HPC - Excellent HPC skills, a broad knowledge of massively parallel high-performance algorithms, programming languages - Initiative, capacity for teamwork, and creativity. - Excellent oral presentation and writing skills in German and English Preferred Experiences - Experience with accelerators (GPU, MICs) and/or programming (CUDA, OpenCL etc) - Experience with large-scale parallel application development, debugging and performance tuning - Experience in managing scientific projects and/or teams Duties/Responsibilities - Perform work in international projects and the application support team - Optimization and porting of strategic large-scale applications to accelerators - Performance analysis and benchmarking - Identification and solution of user problems - Promotion and organization of scientific outreach - Maintaining applications in the field of geophysics and fluid dynamics - Writing of reports, grant applications, and documentation Due to its state-of-the-art computing facilities and its proximity to the Munich universities, LRZ offers a very stimulating and innovative environment. Der Maildienst für die Studenten der LMU (campus.lmu.de) wird am kommenden Dienstag (11.02.2014) auf ein neues System umgezogen und dabei voraussichtlich zwischen 8 und 9 Uhr nicht verfügbar sein. Mails, die während dieser Zeit eingehen, werden an einem davor liegenden Mailsystem zwischengespeichert und nach Ende der Wartung zugestellt.
