Changes to this message: Update Upd: Dear users of the SuperMUC Petaflop system at LRZ, the scheduled maintenance is finished and the system is back in operation. More details about changes in the work environment will follow. Thanks for your patience! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear users of the SuperMUC Petaflop system at LRZ, due to a scheduled maintenance the system will become temporarily unavailable for user operation from June 24, 8:00 am onward. Because we are preparing to improve the energy efficiency of the system, calibration runs will need to be performed in addition to software updates. Therefore, this maintenance is expected to last four days. A list with the changes to the system software will be published via this document once ready. The first three days of this are dedicated to presentations by Intel on their software development stack (compilers, tools and libraries); the remaining day will be comprised of talks and exercises delivered by IBM and LRZ on usage of the IBM-specific aspects of the new system (IBM MPI, LoadLeveler, HPC Toolkit) and recommendations on tuning and optimizing for the new system. Upd:Linux Cluster: Serial SLURM processing returned to operation

Changes to this message: Update Update (June 21, 15:20): SLURM processing is enabled again. All queued and running jobs needed to be deleted, so resubmission of jobs will be required. However, the root cause has only been partially fixed by setting a maximum submitted job number limit (1000). The following additional restrictions on SLURM usage have been added to the user documentation: * Please avoid using more than 10 characters in the job name field. * Please do not submit scripts with - possibly xargs-generated - long argument lists. Generate argument lists for program startup inside a submitted script. Both of the above can lead to overflow of SLURM-internal buffers, amounting to a denial-of-service situation. We intend to put a mechanism in place to enforce the above limits, but this will take some time to implement. Changes to this message: Problem has recurred Update (June 21, 9:15): Unfortunately, the problem has recurred. We're working on it. Update: SLURM processing is enabled again. However the root cause has only been partially fixed by setting a maximum submitted job number limit (1000). Please avoid using more than 10 characters in the job name field. Also note that all queued and running jobs needed to be deleted, so resubmission of jobs will be required. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Due to a combination of a too long job queue and a SLURM configuration problem, job management on the serial cluster segment is presently not working. Update: Bringing up the system will take more time than expected, operation still has to be postponed. Update: While fixing the problems at night we had to kill all processes on the login nodes. We are now bringing the system up again. Login is still not available. We expect the system back in normal operation before noon today. Thanks for your understanding.
